Weston Open Space Committee Elects Co-Chairs, Sets Survey Vote for June 23

WESTON — June 16, 2025 — Weston's newly formed Committee on Open Space and Recreation Plan held its first meeting Monday, electing co-chairs and advancing a public survey designed to update the town's expired state-mandated open space plan. The five-member quorum voted 5-0 to seat Beth Dainton and Hannah Resnick as co-chairs of the ad hoc committee, which was assembled by the Select Board to replace a 2017 plan that lapsed in April 2024. Consultant Jill Fossburgh of Barrett Planning Group walked members through an 18-question draft survey covering facility satisfaction, land-use priorities, and open space spending, noting that the 2017 effort drew 420 responses — about 11 percent of Weston households — a figure members said they hoped to surpass. Members called for revisions including randomized answer lists and clearer household-response instructions; a revised draft is due by noon Friday, June 20, with a special meeting set for Monday, June 23, to cast a final approval vote. Town staff Jordan McCarron noted the plan is targeting an early-2026 state submission, with the completed document expected to restore Weston's eligibility for conservation and recreation grant programs.
