Weston MBTA Working Group Sets November 17 Town Meeting for 3A Housing Vote
WESTON — May 29, 2025 — Weston's MBTA 3A Working Group confirmed a 750-unit, 56-acre housing compliance plan and set November 17 as the special town meeting date. Planning Board Chair Leslie Glynn and Planning Board member Al Aydelott reported that Boston Properties has agreed to pursue a state waiver with the town that would recenter the required half-mile transit radius on a proposed relocated Kendall Green station, enabling a phased plan that replaces a previous 312-unit, 65-foot mid-rise proposal with 86 for-sale townhouses in phase one. Town Planner Imai Aiu said the current unit breakdown allocates 62 units at Merriam Village and 106 at 751 Boston Post Road, though Merriam Village density comes in at roughly eight units per acre, below the state threshold, leaving the numbers subject to revision. Select Board member John McDonald proposed adding Weston Golf Club, approximately 50 acres, to the overlay map, and resident Diana Chaplin argued during public comment that Wightman Tennis Center remains "a high-risk area" for conversion given that a two-thirds membership vote could authorize sale. Town Manager Leon Gaumond said the November 17 date provides extra time to solidify a compliant plan before the state deadline.
