Community Preservation Commission (CPC) · Meeting of September 28, 2026
Weston's Community Preservation Commission opened its fall cycle hearing $920,300 in requests but took no votes. The Historical Commission, through co-chair Phyllis Halpern, asked for $5,000 to reinstall a long-lost George Washington memorial plaque recovered from a cemetery garage, and $52,300 to restore and mount a wrought-iron bench back from philanthropist Marian Case's Hillcrest Gardens inside town hall. Chair Glenn Butcher pushed back on both, saying "it would be poor precedent for us to vote to fund if we didn't know where it was going." Merriam Village, Weston's affordable senior housing nonprofit, requested $863,000 over two years for a second-phase siding and window replacement, with board director Katie Strohacker saying the group tries to be "a low maintenance partner" that rarely asks the CPC for help.
Member Bill pressed the group to tie the request to the CPC's funding of its first project, citing state rules on reusing preservation funds for existing affordable housing. All three proposals are expected to return before a public hearing; the commission also tabled its March 23 minutes and adjourned on a unanimous voice vote.
