Weston CPC Chair Plans to Step Down Before Town Meeting This Spring

WESTON — January 23, 2023 — Weston's Community Preservation Committee opened a light spring cycle with three applications and an unexpected leadership announcement. Chair Steve told members at the January 23 meeting that he intends to step down before town meeting despite his term not yet expiring, saying he had already notified Town Moderator Rip Hastings, who appoints at-large members. The committee received applications from the Affordable Housing Trust for its annual regional housing services request, a Rhododendron Garden proposal connected to applicant Michael Harity, and a combined Recreation Department submission requesting CPC funds for pickleball court construction and tennis court replacement at Burchard Park — the last of which drew scrutiny over whether the two projects are on equal CPA eligibility footing and whether bundling them prevents separate votes. More than $30,000 in Recreation Enterprise Fund money had already been spent on tennis court design without prior CPC involvement. Members voted 6-0 to approve minutes from three meetings held in June and July 2022.
