Weston boards vote to file 3A action plan, send same zoning to May town meeting

WESTON — February 7, 2025 — Weston tees up second town meeting vote on 3A zoning after December's 26 percent defeat. The Select Board and Planning Board, meeting jointly Feb. 7, agreed in principle to send the same MBTA Communities zoning bylaw back to the May annual town meeting and unanimously authorized the chair and Town Manager Leon McCabe-Sokol to sign and submit an updated state action plan by Feb. 12 certifying Weston's intent to file a compliance application by July 14. Member Lise Revers said the board could not unilaterally skip the article: "There is no way for the Select Board to determine the will of the residents without another vote." Member Lori Bent said any rewrite means new hearings — "once we touch it, once we start tweaking it, we're opening up for a bunch of hearings" — and pushed any substantive redesign to a possible fall special town meeting. The boards left one tweak alive: a five-acre, 75-unit 3A overlay at 751 Boston Post Road, where a 172-unit Chapter 40B project is already permitted, to be decided Feb. 11.
