Weston approves $4.6 million Proctor Field and track overhaul

WESTON — May 8, 2017 — Weston Annual Town Meeting approves $4.6 million in field upgrades and a scaled-back Case Campus plan. Voters cleared a $4.14 million borrowing for a new track, synthetic turf on Proctor Field, sports lighting and a concessions building, plus $500,000 to recarpet the adjacent Field 1, both by two-thirds majorities. Presenter Alex Cobb said the 1998 track is "unsafe for events" and pegged peak-year debt service at $94 for the median household. An amended Article 19 passed 222-94 for $1.15 million in Case Campus work after Traffic and Sidewalk Vice Chair Clint Schuckel cut $160,000 in paving and a Case House connector. Voters also approved $860,000 for wireless water meters 189-79, a $456,000 town center utility-burying design appropriation, and a bylaw allowing electronic handheld voting, with Finance Chair John McDonald warning the utility design is a prelude to roughly $5 million in construction.
