Weston Agricultural Commission launches outreach drive to expand local farming community

WESTON — December 1, 2021 — Weston's reactivated Agricultural Commission mapped out a broad outreach campaign at its December 1 meeting, its third since reconvening after years of dormancy. Chair Kent Lundberg and members discussed using the Weston Facebook page, the Town Crier, Weston Media Center, and local blogger Kristen Barbieri's "Weston Owl" newsletter — which reaches more than 550 subscribers — to recruit residents to future meetings, with member Saishaui Tang volunteering to draft copy for review before the next session. Pam, a representative from Landside Farm, offered farm imagery for commission content and said her organization now employs a part-time social media staffer. The commission also flagged the need to monitor May town meeting bylaw proposals, including a draft Conservation Commission wetlands bylaw, for any impact on agricultural exemptions. The next meeting is set for February 2, 2022.
