Planning Board rejects design of 40 Westerly Road security gate, demands rural-character redesign

WESTON — September 8, 2021 — Weston Planning Board sends 40 Westerly Road security gate back for a rural-character redesign. The board on Sept. 8 accepted the gate's proposed location 30 feet up the driveway after Deputy Fire Chief Justin Woodside ran an on-site fire-truck test, but unanimously continued the hearing to Sept. 22 pending a less "prison gates" design, in member Stephen Oppenheimer's words. Attorney Beth Nolan, representing owner Archer Avenue Investments II, warned the owner could forgo the addition and build the fence by right; Chair Alicia Primer responded that the proposed five-and-a-half-foot solid black metal gate "does not fit in Weston's semi-rural character." The board also continued hearings on 5 Clifford Lane (5,193 sq ft RGFA), 506 North Avenue (RGFA corrected to 5,945 from a noticed 3,124), and a two-to-one, 30-tree remediation plan at 5 Colchester Road, where the current builder cut a protected right-of-way pine and additional canopy trees beyond the approved limit of work.
