Library Expands Summer Reading Push With New Kids' Programs

WESTON — The Weston Public Library is pushing its summer reading initiatives into full swing this week, with new kids' events and reading incentives anchoring an otherwise quiet stretch of town news.

TOWN HALL

No town hall press releases or department announcements outside of library and school programming came through the News Flash system for this period.

SCHOOLS

Weston Public Schools' latest posted news items are administrative markers rather than new announcements: reminders about joining or renewing 2026-2027 PTO membership (posted July 21), ordering WEEFC STAR Awards, and archival notes on the Weston High School Class of 2026 graduation and the WPS Art Show video. No new policy or calendar announcements were posted for this window.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The library has several concrete kids' events on tap. A "Princess Storytime with the Warrior Princess" session invites children to hear stories and songs and pose for photos in royal or "lamellar armor" attire, per the town's News Flash listing. Also announced: a "Forensic Crime Lab" program on Tuesday, July 28, at 2:30 p.m., where kids can learn basic forensic science techniques and try to solve a mock crime.

The library's summer reading program, "Plant a Seed, Read!", continues with registration, logging, and prizes running through August 15, and a companion promotion, "Sail into Summer," lets registrants enter to win a prize by signing up between June 22 and August 3. Adult readers have their own draw: the library's August Mystery Book Group will meet via Zoom on August 18 at 4 p.m. to discuss "The Devotion of Suspect X" by Keigo Higashino. Separately, the town's summer concert-series page is spotlighting Johannes Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2 as a recommended listen until the concert series resumes this fall.
