WESTON — The Weston Community Preservation Committee voted unanimously to spend up to $20,000 appraising a 1.92-acre meadow at 819 Boston Post Road for possible town purchase. Chair Glenn Butcher said the CPC's finances are "quite sound" enough to absorb the cost, and noted the town's newly approved 2026 Open Space and Recreation Plan makes it eligible for a state land grant through the Division of Conservation Services. Member Gwen King questioned whether residents would see the fenced, largely hidden parcel as real public open space, asking "is it going to be perceived by the town as preserved open space when they drive by it as much." A representative of the selling family, identified as Rob, said the owners have "a big financial interest to just sell it yesterday" but are holding off to let the town try to preserve it.
The 5-0 roll call included Nathalie Thompson, Jennifer Millen, Alan Day and Gwen King. Any purchase would next require approval at the special Town Meeting scheduled for November 23.
